A spokesman for Gun Owners of America discusses what’s happening within Virginia and Wyoming, and why private gun owners should pay attention.
As of this moment, Virginia and Wyoming are two key states that traditionally support Second Amendment rights. However, changes are moving into place that could potentially change that.
For instance, in Virginia, the state will hold off-year State-level elections this year. With it, a new Governor, Attorney General, Lt. Governor, and State Legislative members will be brought into office. Virginia’s long tradition of off-year elections is a bit odd and often overlooked, considering states usually hold elections in even years alongside Federal elections.
Virginia has historically supported Second Amendment rights. However, as of late, Governor Youngkin, a strong Second Amendment advocate, has been forced to veto many anti-Second Amendment bills that passed through the legislature. Youngkin is not running again, and without another strong Governor, or positive changes in the current legislature, the state of Virginia will certainly see draconian, negative changes regarding Second Amendment issues.
That spells bad news for private gun owners and those that believe in Constitutional Rights.
In Wyoming, the state is currently a strong supporter of Second Amendment Rights, and this has been proven by the passage of many pro-gun bills in recent years. However, Left-leaning legislative members and many groups funded outside the state, are pushing to change Wyoming in a similar manner to what has been seen in neighboring Colorado. Colorado, a once pro-gun state, now has some of the Nation’s most radical examples of gun control. Second Amendment advocates cannot let this happen in Wyoming, which is often looked at as an example for the rest of the Country in terms of protecting the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.
Why are there so many pushes against gun rights when they are clearly defined by the Second Amendment of the Constitution? And furthermore, what could drastic changes bring to states that have become well-known for supporting private gun owners?
A spokesman for the Gun Owners of America joins us now to discuss this situation further. Mark Jones is a National Director for the group, while Stephen Willeford serves as spokesman. We welcome our guests to our show!
Q&A:
- Why is Virginia holding such an odd election? With Governor Youngkin not running again, how critical is the current Governor’s race for the protection of Second Amendment Rights in the state?
- How much danger is the state in when it comes to overturning its support of Second Amendment rights? Should citizens be concerned about this matter?
- Is there anything that Virginia citizens can do to sound off on their concerns?
- As for Wyoming, why are members of the Left trying to overturn its long-standing Second Amendment rules?
- You noted that Wyoming should not “regress like the neighbor Colorado.” Has that latter state really fallen apart when it comes to gun rights? Is there a possibility that Wyoming could follow suit?
- What can Wyoming gun owners do in regard to keeping their precious rights?
