Why is a socialist Mayor more concerned with following strict policies than putting provisions in place to stop gang violence?
Seattle has fallen. Hard. Over the past few years, the city has seen a massive increase in crime, mainly due to the city’s lack of support for police, as well as allowing gang-related criminal activity to continue. And while a new socialist Democrat mayor continues to make excuses, it’s obvious that something needs to be done to stop the violence. And Gun Owners of America spokesman Stephen Willeford has a genuinely good idea.
According to this report from Yahoo! News, violence has gotten so bad in Seattle neighborhoods that residents found themselves with no choice but to literally build up walls to block off their streets, using metal planets, dirt, gravel and more. While they’re aware that such homemade blockades could create fines, they’re left with no choice.

- Democratic socialist Mayor Kate Wilson has been in office for several months, but has made no forward movement on policies to slow down crime in her city.
- Wilson has been repeatedly mocked for some of her tight-knit policies, which seem to hinder citizens rather than helping them in their time of need.
- For years, Seattle has hindered its police force, starting with the rise of the “defund the police” campaign and leading into today, where crime is at an all-time high.
- Several businesses have closed following the increase in gang activity, and yet Wilson doesn’t seem to be keen on changing policy anytime soon.
One resident even explained, “It’s either this, or bullets in my neighbor’s houses.”
What’s worse, Katie Wilson, who has been in charge of the city for the past few months, has no real solution in sight. While she puts up strict policies (which are being fiercely objected to by many online), gang violence continues to build.
Conservative commentator Paul Szypula sums it up best. “When progressive policies result in neighborhoods literally barricading themselves off…that says everything. What should Seattle leaders be doing so residents don’t feel forced to do this?”
It’s here that Stephen Willeford, who served as the “hero with a gun” in the 2017 Sutherland Springs shooter event, has a proper solution – open-carry, or, at the very least, Constitutional-Carry. Some form of these have been legalized in just over half of the United States, and with great effect when it comes to criminal activity being down. He believes Wilson needs to put up or shut up when it comes to resolving this problem, before it becomes much, much worse.
Willeford joins us now to discuss the situation further.
Q&A:
- Why do some leaders feel the need to stubbornly stick by their ironclad policies, no matter how much harm they seem to be doing to the community?
- We’ve also seen such leaders, like the ones in Virginia, create anti-gun policies that go against everything the Second Amendment of the Constitution protects. Why do they do this?
- Are you surprised that citizens had to create their own blockades to keep criminals out of their neighborhoods? Or is that expected, considering Wilson’s failure in office?
- You’re suggesting that Seattle adopt some form of open-carry or Constitutional-Carry, so certain people can provide safety to neighborhoods. Do you believe this is the proper solution the city needs right now?
- Open-carry and/or Constitutional-Carry is now legal in over half of the United States right now. Do you believe this has made a difference in criminal activity within these states?
- What about those that would argue that “more people with guns” would be a problem, even though anyone that practices Open-Carry or Constitutional-Carry is fully licensed and trained?
- If Wilson doesn’t do something soon about the growing criminal activity in Seattle, could the worst be to come?
- You recently wrote a book called A Town Called Sutherland Springs: Faith and Heroism Through Tragedy, revolving around your 2017 “hero with a gun” situation. Tell us more about how this came together, and why it’s such an important read right now.
