A New Report Suggests That the FBI Could Be Hiding Numbers Indicating Just How Effective Concealed-Carry Citizens Are (Guest: Second Amendment)

A Second Amendment Foundation representative questions why the bureau would be reporting lower numbers.

Many private gun owners and pro-gun groups have been calling for the passing of a concealed-carry rule to help with growing criminal activity in cities, as well as a potential solution for active shooter events. Today, a news story from Fox News indicates why they’re making such an argument.

The report, put together by the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC), notes that there are “massive errors” when it comes to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) reporting on the effectiveness of concealed-carry citizens against active shooters.

The data indicates that 34.4 percent of active shooter events were stopped by said citizens. However, the FBI indicates that only 4.4 percent were stopped – a 30 percent difference. In addition, it notes 11 out of 252 active shooter events were stopped by concealed-carry citizens. However, the CPRC notes that it was actually 124 out of 360.

“Although collecting such data is fraught with challenges, some see a pattern of distortion in the FBI numbers because the errors almost exclusively go one way, minimizing the life-saving actions of armed citizens,” the report notes.

Gary Mauser, who serves as an emeritus professor for the Simon Fraser University in Canada, added the following: “Whether deliberately through bias or just incompetence, the FBI database of active shooters cannot be trusted.”

Joining us now is a representative of the Second Amendment Foundation, discussing why the FBI may be reportedly providing incorrect numbers when it comes to the effectiveness of concealed-carry.

Q&A:

  1. Why do you believe that the FBI would want to hide numbers surrounding these concealed-carry cases? Could it possibly tie in with Joe Biden’s attempted gun ban?
  2. Would you say that concealed-carry has been effective when it comes to fighting back against active shooter events? What would you say to someone that tries to argue otherwise?
  3. If the numbers were reported correctly by the FBI, could they constitute an argument that concealed-carry should be passed across the United States?
  4. This seems to be the latest blow against the FBI and its reported issues looking into cases surrounding private armed citizens. Do you think it’s alarming that it hasn’t reported the truth on these numbers?
  5. If you were able to draft a concealed-carry law for the United States, how would you go about it?
  6. Where can we learn more about the Second Amendment Foundation and its members?
