Prime Minister Yair Lapid’s Deal With Lebanon Is No Good, According To Opposition Leader Benjamin Netanyahu (Guest: David Rubin)

Former Mayor of Shiloh and author David Rubin discusses Netanyahu’s comments, and how Lapid’s act is a “surrender to Hezbollah.”

recent report by Israel National News reports that opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu had a lot to say about Prime Minister Yair Lapid’s recent agreement with Lebanon, which he considers a full “surrender to Hezbollah.”

He noted that “under my leadership,” they did “not give in to Nasrallah’s threats – and we did not suffer a war.” But then upon Lapid’s arrival, things fell apart in a matter of months.

“Nasrallah launched drones into a gas rip in our territory – something which he did not dare to do under the governments headed by me,” Netanyahu continued. “He threatened Lapid: ‘By force of arms I will force Israel to surrender in negotiations.’ Lapid was frightened – and surrendered.”

Netanyahu also noted that Lapid tried to justify the surrender by saying it was “required in order to get the gas out of Karish,” though really it’s a matter of being in a “hurry to get the gas out of the water in favor of Hezbollah.”

He summed up, “Whoever surrenders to Hezbollah like this cannot be prime minister,” and, under his previous leadership, “we did not give in to threats, we removed the gas from the sea, and brought about the quietest security decade in Israel’s history.”

Here to speak on the matter now is the former Mayor of Shiloh, David Rubin, who is also the author of seven books and founder of Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund.

Q&A:

  1. Do you believe that Netanyahu has a point about Lapid’s quick surrender to Hezbollah? Did he really believe that he was too afraid to put on a strong face against them?
  2. How vital is the gas situation in Israel at the moment, and do you see anything changing from it over the next few months?
  3. Is it possible that Netanyahu is simply trying to show Lapid’s weakness in the face of his previous work in-office? Or do you think he’s seen weakness in Lapid’s performance since becoming prime minister?
  4. How do you think all of this will affect Israel’s upcoming election?
  5. Where can we learn more about you and the books you’ve written, as well as the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund?
