Law enforcement veteran Michael Letts discusses why the zero-bail system is a burden to the many communities.
In the face of growing criminal activity and danger that could be imposed upon its communities, a dozen citizens around the Los Angeles area have decided to take matters into their own hands.
Per this report from The Epoch Times, these twelve cities – including the likes of Whittier, Arcadia and Lakewood – have filed a lawsuit, asking the Los Angeles Superior Court to stop the system’s implemented zero bail policy.
The Superior Court initially removed cash bail for several non-violent crimes as part of this system, which went into effect this week.
Why does it pose such a threat? Glendale Mayor Gary Boyer noted, “The zero-bail schedule fails to support local leaders in their pledge to protect their residents, and that is unacceptable.”
He also added, “It is our duty to this community to ensure the safety of those who live here, work here, and visit.” Judging how the zero-bail system is set to operate, that could be a problem.
Joining us now to discuss the matter further is Michael Letts, a law enforcement veteran with over 30 years of experience under his belt. Letts is President, Founder and CEO of InVest USA, an organization that provides bulletproof vests to police officers through various charitable groups and sponsorships. His expertise on the matter will certainly be welcome here.
