The producer and editor of the new Epoch Times documentary Gotaways explains how a heavy cost is coming from migrants sneaking into the country.
While there is concern surrounding safety with migrants sneaking into the United States, there’s also another factor to consider – a financial cost.
As you may have heard in the news, Texas, Florida and other states are spending thousands of dollars to ship migrants to other cities. But the toll is really adding up in unexpected areas – such as Denver.
A new report from Fox News reveals that the Mile High City has seen costs as high as $25 million when it comes to sheltering migrants within the state, as it attempts to find a solution to its growing problem. The cost estimated at around $1,000 per week per migrant, and it’s added up quickly.
New York Mayor Eric Adams spoke previously on the growing migrant state, explaining that his city could lose $12 billion by 2025 without the assistance of federal action.
But this is just one case where we’re hearing about the surging costs of taking care of migrants in this country – a big problem considering the inflation issues and growing homelessness that the U.S. government is already looking into. “We are about to experience a financial…tsunami that I don’t think the city has ever experienced,” he explained. “Every service in this city is going to be impacted from child service to our seniors to housing. Everything will be impacted.”
Keep in mind that the U.S. government already has its hands full with a growing rate of homeless people, as well as inflation in general. So what can be done about it?
Joining us now to discuss this situation further is Kay Rubacek, producer and editor of the film Gotaways, now on Epoch TV. Her experience in seeing what’s happening with migrants certainly make her a good subject for this topic.
Q&A:
- What is your take on the financial burden that many states are facing with the growing number of migrants within their cities?
- Do you believe Adams’ statement that a “financial tsunami” could be on the horizon if a resolution isn’t found soon? Is the situation really that dire?
- Based on what you’ve seen with your experience working on the Epoch TV documentary Gotaways, how easy is it for migrants to come into this country unnoticed? Is that something to blame on Border Patrol, or is the funding not there to keep a closer eye on the situation?
- How dire would you say the “border crisis” is at the moment? Could things get progressively worse going into 2024?
- Could we possibly see more migrants being shipped state to state as a “quickie” solution to the growing problem?
- Tell us more about Gotaways, and what viewers can learn from what you and director/producer Charlotte Cuthbertson have put together.
- We understand that Charlotte just won the Best First Time Director award for Gotaways at the Oniros New York Film Festival. What would you say about this accomplishment?
