The Epoch Times investigative reporter Nan Su discusses the latest “secret” surveillance on the country by Xi Jinping and the People’s Republic of China.
Just months following the controversial shooting down of a surveillance balloon over U.S. soil, The White House has confirmed another place where China has set up camp to spy on the country’s operations.
A Biden administration official confirmed that Xi Jinping and the People’s Republic of China have set up camp in Cuba to spy on the U.S. for the past several years. In fact, the country even spent money on upgrades back in 2019, to assure that its operations would keep going.
“When this administration took office in January 2021, we were briefed on a number of sensitive [People’s Republic of China] efforts around the world to expand its overseas logistics, basing, and collection infrastructure globally to allow the [People’s Liberation Army] to project and sustain military power at greater distance,” the administration official noted in their report.
They continued, “This is an issue that this administration inherited. It was our assessment that, despite awareness of the basing efforts and some attempts to address this challenge in the past administration, we were not making enough progress and needed a more direct approach.”
This comes just days following the reveal of a Wall Street Journal report that said China was interested in setting up an “eavesdropping” station in Cuba – something both China itself, as well as the Biden Administration, initially denied.
There’s no word on what will happen next, though the Biden administration are looking further into the “ongoing issue.” China has yet to respond on the matter.
So what happens now? Joining us now to discuss this further is Nan Su, an investigative reporter for the Epoch Times. His expertise in all things China should be helpful in this matter.
Q&A:
- How big a deal is this to the United States, especially considering they had just shot down a surveillance balloon months prior?
- How do you think China will respond to the matter? Will there continue to be ongoing hostility between the two countries, especially as far as Taiwan is concerned?
- What do you think the Biden administration will do from here? Will they likely order that the facility be hunted down? Could China retaliate as a result?
- There have been talks that, if the situation doesn’t simmer down, China could soon be at war with the United States. Do you see this becoming a likely scenario?
- Speaking of what’s going on with China, you recently contributed to a new Epoch Times documentary called The Final War. Tell us more about it and why it’s such a compelling subject with everything that’s happening right now.
- Where can we learn more about you and see your work over on The Epoch Times?
