A Second Amendment Foundation representative addresses a new L.A. Times report about growing concern over gun laws in California.
Following two more in state “active shooter” events , a new poll shows that Californians are very concerned about gun violence – but the politicians above them seem very divided about finding a solution.
The survey indicates that around 64 percent of those polled are concerned about being harmed by gun violence, or someone close to them being hurt. Out of those, 30 percent are “very concerned”.
That said, an interesting factor here is how far apart Democrats and Republicans are when it comes to a proper gun solutions. Prior to this report, 88 percent of Democrats believed that strict gun laws would be effective. However, following the continued stream of violence in California, that number has dwindled to 61 percent.
Meanwhile, 78 percent of Republicans believe that stricter gun laws wouldn’t help much – which seems to be the effect that California is currently going through.
So is there a solution that both sides could lead to a proper solution for “active shooter” events, in California and otherwise? With us now is a representative for Second Amendment Foundation to provide further context. They are a group that firmly believes in the right to bear arms – the Second Amendment in the Constitution.
Q&A:
- Speaking about this L.A. Times report, it’s interesting to see how Democrats are slowly losing faith in the idea that strict gun laws could halt “active shooter” violence. Why do you think it’s taking them so long to grasp this idea?
- Meanwhile, it seems a majority of Republicans realize that gun bans aren’t stopping the violence. Is that because they’ve done the research, or they understand that a more proper solution is in play?
- President Biden has called for a ban on “assault weapons” in the past, but that doesn’t seem to be getting much traction as of late. Is it because of what’s happening in California and other states trying to propose gun bans?
- For the longest time, you’ve discussed the idea that having Constitutional-Carry (or Concealed-Carry, as some call it) citizens is far more effective than an outright gun ban. Why do you believe this is the case?
- We’ve seen reports in the past where some Concealed-Carry citizens have managed to stop threats. However, the FBI seems pretty quick to try to cover up these numbers. Why do you think this is the case?
- Where do you see the gun ban/Concealed-Carry argument going as the year goes on? Do you think more Democrats will understand the importance of Concealed-Carry as a gun ban continues to be less and less effective in stopping “Active Shooters”?
