While New York Does Allow For Concealed-Carry Permits, It’s Making It Really Tough To Use Them (Guest: Stephen Willeford)

Gun Owners of America spokesman Stephen Willeford discusses the ridiculous law, which will soon be reviewed by the 2nd circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals.

New York continues to be a thorn in the side of gun owners, particularly those that practice Constitutional-Carry (or Concealed Carry, as some call it).

new report from The New York Times indicates that the city’s attempt to apply its own gun laws following the Supreme Court’s overturning of previous regulations has increasingly challenging to private gun owners.

Following the Court’s decision back in June, New York created a law taking away the “proper cause” requirement for carry permits. However, at the same time, it created new restrictions that make it difficult to have public possession of a firearm – contradicting the ability to use a permit.

This legislature, according to the Times, “made certain areas off-limits to firearms.” However, as a result, many Federal judges, along with various gun groups, have deemed them unconstitutional, going against the Second Amendment. And next month, the U.S. Court of Appeals is set to hear a number of cases surrounding citizens that note how the new rules make it nearly impossible to carry a firearm – even with a permit.

Here now to discuss this further is Stephen Willeford, the spokesman for Gun Owners of America. You may recall in 2017 how he stopped the Sutherland Springs, Texas mass shooting, acting as the “good guy with a gun.” His expertise is welcome in this matter.

Q&A:

  1. Why is New York so hellbent on putting gun laws into place, despite the fact that both the Supreme Court and the Second Amendment of the Constitution are so against them?
  2. Does the idea of having a permit and not being able to use it for Constitutional (Concealed) Carry sound ridiculous to you?
  3. There have been a number of complaints surrounding New York’s recent anti-gun legislature. Do you believe they’re warranted? Do you believe the U.S. Court of Appeals will have no trouble overturning it?
  4. What do you think New York might attempt next if this legislature somehow ends up being overturned?
  5. Tell us more about your “hero with a gun” incident in 2017, and the importance of being ready against an “active shooter.”
  6. Where can we learn more about you, as well as Gun Owners of America?
