Around the world, a coronavirus culture is emerging, with never before seen restrictions on daily life, and the tedious isolation of quarantine. Jobs, school, sporting events, concerts, family gatherings, weddings and religious events have been cancelled and citizens are being asked to stay home to help ‘flatten-the curve’ amid the rapid-spreading COVID-19.
We’ve been asked home for the greater good, but stay-at-home orders don’t have to mean serving others can’t still be on the schedule. Adapting to their new ‘normal,’ American Heritage Girl members are finding creative ways stay connected through completing badge work and planning virtual service projects – all while staying at home.
Writing letters for nursing home residents and loved ones, participating in local food drives, hosting Troop meetings via Zoom, and connecting with their families are all among the ways AHG Members are continuing to join in faith, service, and fun.
AHG created a resource titled Certainty in Uncertain Times which offers tools and advice on how to protect, encourage, and be intentional in this time of crisis: https://americanheritagegirls.org/certainty-in-uncertain-times-responding-to-covid-19/
Giving us the scoop on ways your youth can be engaged by serving others, even while social distancing, is Patti Garibay, Founder & Executive Director of American Heritage Girls.
