A Federal Judge Has Stopped Gov. Hochul’s Strict New York Gun Laws – But How Long Will It Last? (Guest: Second Amendment)

New York Governor Kathy Hochul was just celebrating the newly implemented gun laws for her state, following the Supreme Court’s overturning of restrictive local gun licensing requirements earlier in the summer. However, that victory has been cut short by a recent court decision.

U.S. District Court Judge Glenn Suddaby has paused several items in the gun laws, particularly the requirement that concealed-carry applicants must have “good moral character” and strong social media presence. In addition, he also did away with the creation of key gun-free zones.

Dubbing the new laws “unconstitutional,” Suddaby’s decision puts a kibosh on Hochul’s current plans on the city. That said, she hasn’t given up just yet, noting it is “deeply disappointing that the Judge wants to limit my ability to keep New Yorkers safe and to prevent more senseless gun violence.” More than likely, she’ll return with revisions, even in the face of growing criminal activity in New York City.

Joining us now is a representative of the Second Amendment Foundation, who will discuss the importance of this win, and what Hochul could possibly do to get the block removed.

Q&A:

  1. What do you think of this temporary court win? Would you say it’s a fairly big one for gun owners?
  2. Why do you think Hochul is so hellbent on keeping these new gun laws in effect, despite the fact that New York City’s criminal rate is rising to a nearly uncontrollable level?
  3. What do you think Hochul will do in terms of trying to get the laws passed? Potential tweaking of said laws, or finding a judge that will see things her way?
  4. How important is concealed-carry in the state of New York right now? Do you believe citizens with this ability can turn the tide on a growing crime rate?
  5. You’ve spoken on the importance of concealed-carry in the past. Do you think there needs to be something done to possibly get it passed on a national level?
  6. Where can we learn more about the Second Amendment Foundation and its members?
