The DoJ Firing Back Against Gun Laws!

The Gun Owners of America discuss a pair of lawsuits against ridiculous Colorado gun laws.

One state that continuously pushes for its own kind of gun laws is Colorado, and its latest ones have captured the attention of the Department of Justice, according to Gun Owners of America spokesman Stephen Willeford.

As reported earlier this week, the U.S. Department of  Justice is suing Denver over not only the city’s unfair weapons ban, but also a gun law that they feel is unconstitutional. In the latest suit, it notes that the state’s law that bans the possession or sale of gun magazines with a capacity of more than 15 rounds definitely hits below the belt.

Huey Laugesen, who works with the Colorado State Shooting Association, has been pushing for the DoJ to take action against such ridiculous laws. “It definitely puts these elected officials on notice, who have thought for a long time that they can just get away with passing legislation that blatantly violates the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution,” he said.

Gun control groups note both the Aurora theater shooting and the Sandy Hook elementary shooting as key examples as to why the laws were put into place. However, Laugesen again noted the importance of defending the rights of private gun owners. “An essential component that is in common use for America’s most common rifle is certainly something we believe is protected.”

But will the Department of Justice finally get through to Colorado? Or will it continue to be stingy when it comes to its gun laws?

Stephen Willeford knows all too well the effects of being a hero in a dangerous situation. He was known as the “hero with a gun” in the 2017 situation in Sutherland Springs, where he effectively stopped a deadly attack. He joins us now to discuss this matter further. Welcome, Stephen!
