With the November election looming and his numbers abysmal, President Joe Biden signed an executive order that shuts down asylum requests at the U.S. Mexico border once the average number of dally encounters hits 2500. Currently, it is averaging more than 4000 a day, so the order is expected to cause a slowdown immediately.
A Gallup poll in April revealed Americans see immigration as the top problem in the U.S. today. And a series of polls in the past few months reveal Biden is upside down by 30 points on the issue. Trump is seen as considerably better on immigration.
