A spokesman for the Second Amendment Foundation explains why the state’s representatives are going too far with gun restrictions.
State legislators in Colorado are going out of their way to make owning a gun in the state an absolute hurdle.
According to this report from CPR, legislators have already set up a number of strict requirements for citizens within their borders. These include having to pass stricter requirements to hold a concealed carry permit, as well as owning a locked storage container for any handgun left within their car. One of these has already become law, with the rest ready to be approved by the Governor.
While Democratic Majority Leader Monica Duran notes, “I know the bills we passed this year will make a big difference in making our community safer,” the question is how many rights are being infringed in an effort to do so.
Among the other laws passed by the state include increasing training requirements for concealed carry, as well as imposing a tax on gun and ammunition purchases – which could put a real strain on those that sell them.
So what happens now? Could the Second Amendment be enough to challenge these laws? Or will Colorado legislators just keep going?
