A spokesman for the group explains why the President is pushing heavily against Second Amendment rights.
The White House recently announced a plan to expand background checks to close reported “loopholes” that the Biden administration previously claimed exist in private gun sales and transfers. But, in doing so, it’s set to violate the right to keep and bear arms, as provided by the Second Amendment.
“This is another misguided policy that will not accomplish what the administration claims its goal is,” said Citizens Committee for the Right To Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) Managing Director Andrew Gottlieb. “It will not reduce violent crime or make anyone safer. It is an infringement on the rights of honest citizens and a distraction from policies that target criminals.”
The group firmly believes that the setting of such policies will create more havoc for these gun owners, without really resolving the problems at hand.
“Piling more restrictions and costs on law-abiding Americans will not curb violence,” Gottlieb said. “Violent criminals don’t follow any rules. They do not bother with background checks. This administration should instead focus its efforts on prosecuting those who break existing laws.”
Under current law, background checks are required for all gun sales through licensed dealers, even at gun shows and online. The Biden plan would require background checks for all private sales and transfers, including those between family and friends, and in some cases even loans and gifts. There is no evidence such a plan would reduce violence, Gottlieb said.
