A representative for the group discusses the importance of the signing, especially in the face of so many gun limitations.
At a time when so many states are trying to put restrictive gun laws in place, Louisiana is taking a different approach.
Governor Jeff Landry recently signed a “Constitutional Carry” bill, keeping his previously made promise to allow voters to retain their right to bear arms as needed.
The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) recognizes this, applauding Landry on the move.
“Louisiana lawmakers and Gov. Landry have taken a bold step for public safety,” said CCRKBA chairman Alan Gottlieb in a statement. “Meanwhile, legislatures and governors in the remaining 22 holdout states are signaling that they do not trust their citizens with the most fundamental right of all, the right of self-defense. What a shameful message to telegraph to the people they are elected to serve.”
He believes that other states that refuse to adapt to such a law are “essentially telling their residents they are second-class citizens.”
After all,” he added, “criminals don’t bother with permits, or any of the other restrictive gun laws that have prevented honest citizens from defending themselves and their families. Our hats are off to Louisiana lawmakers and especially Gov. Jeff Landry for fulfilling his promise to sign permitless carry into law.”
