Why Is New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham So Dedicated To Gun Ban Laws That Will Just Get Knocked Down? (Guest: Stephen Willeford)

The “hero with a gun” discusses Grisham’s continuous efforts to try and get guns banned, despite the Second Amendment standing firm.

It seems that with each passing week, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham thinks up new gun restrictions that she believes will benefit the state of New Mexico.

This week, Grisham fired four new “public safety measures,” including two very strict gun rules, in the face of the public health emergency over gun violence that collapsed as quickly as she put the plan together.

The big rule with these new restrictions now prevent a new firearm from being purchased for seven days (in place of the previous three-day period), and that firearms will not be permitted near polling places.

Out of these two new restrictions, the first is the biggest problem, especially to those who simply want a firearm in an effort to keep their loved ones safe.

Several Republicans have spoken up about these restrictions, including House Minority Leader Rep. Ryan Lane of Aztec. “We should discuss and debate other measures that can help reduce crime while respecting our Second Amendment rights,” he noted.

Is Grisham going too far? Joining us now to discuss this matter is Stephen Willeford, a spokesman for the Gun Owners of America. Stephen was also the “hero with a gun” in the 2017 Sutherland Springs incident, which he has since co-written a book about. We welcome him to the show.

Q&A:

  1. First off, what do you think about Grisham’s continuous efforts to put gun restrictions in place in Albuquerque and surrounding areas?
  2. Is an extended period on firearm purchases a danger for those looking to simply protect themselves?
  3. These new restrictions come after Grisham tried (and failed) to declare a public health emergency on firearms. How long do you believe these new restrictions will last?
  4. Why do you believe Grisham is so determined to get such restrictions put in place, despite the Second Amendment protecting citizens?
  5. Could this have an effect on her political career when it comes for re-election?
  6. Do you believe gun violence will be a relevant topic when it comes to this year’s Presidential Election?
  7. You recently wrote a book called A Town Called Sutherland Springs: Faith and Heroism Through Tragedy, revolving around your 2017 “hero with a gun” situation. Tell us more about how this came together, and why it’s such an important read right now.
  8. Where can people find your book?
    1. You can purchase the book here on Amazon, both in paperback and Kindle format.
  9. Where can we learn more about you, as well as Gun Owners of America?
    1. You can learn more at http://www.thebarefootdefender.com. You can also read more about the Gun Owners of America at https://www.gunowners.org/.
