Xi Jinping Will Get a Third Term In China – But Many Questions Arise From His Rule

The Epoch Times’ Nan Su discusses the controversial leader’s forthcoming third term in office.

There’s already a number of questions with China surrounding trade and security, and with Xi Jinping sworn in for a third term for the country, those will likely continue to rise.

The leader self-appointed himself another term as leader of the ruling Communist Party over this past weekend. With this latest term, he vows to invest more in the country’s technology and military development, as well as working to assure that Beijing’s “core interests” are protected, though he didn’t divulge details as to how.

But with that comes concerns about how China will continue to create tension when it comes to trade circles, especially with Jinping’s currently standing “zero-COVID” strategy, which has left a number of businesses and partners in sheer frustration. Not to mention those in Washington who believe that China has set out to bend the rules with global security and economics.

Here to discuss Jinping’s latest term in office is Nan Su, who serves as senior correspondent for The Epoch Times. He has been talking about Xi Jinping’s actions for some time now, and continues to discuss the effects from his third term regularly. His expertise will prove useful in this subject.

Q&A:

  1. How would you sum up Xi Jinping’s placement as leader of the ruling Communist Party so far? Would you say more good than harm has come from it, or is it the other way around?
  2. How much uneasiness surrounds his third term as leader? There’s already a lot of disruption surrounding China’s trade circles. Do you believe this will simply make matters worse?
  3. Xi believes that the world system is completely “broken” and China has the “answers” that can improve it. What’s your take on what China’s solutions are, and who do they really benefit in the long run?
  4. Xi also believes in relying more on technology and a faster military development. Is this simply trying to show the world the strength China has, or is there another initiative he has in mind?
  5. Why do you believe Xi is so dead-set on refusing to change any current trade policies? Is he just not seeing what kind of damage was done to the trade circles? Or is he simply trying to focus on things more important to him?
  6. Do you believe that, in a few years’ time, there may be nothing stopping Xi from going for a fourth term as leader? Or does it depend on how the next few years go?
  7. There’s word that, under this third term, Xi will push forward with his initiative to take over Taiwan with military forces. What do you believe will come of this?
  8. There’s been a great deal of discussion regarding private wealth accumulation. What will Xi do in regards to the wealthy in China? Could this have an effect on foreign investment?
  9. Where can we learn more about you and see your work over on The Epoch Times?
