FIFA-Fo-Fum: As World Cup’s Fans Fill Stands, Sex Traffickers Count on Crowds Taking their Eyes off the Ball
With the World Cup once again drawing global attention and renewed warnings about human trafficking, new research suggests the reality of exploitation is often far easier at huge events like the World Cup. Studies examining major sporting events such as the World Cup, Olympics, and Super Bowl have found little evidence of the dramatic trafficking spikes often predicted before such events. Instead, experts increasingly point to trafficking as a long-term process of grooming, coercion, manipulation, and abuse that frequently begins years before victims are ever identified. Few people understand that reality better than Juliette Engel.

- World Cup trafficking myths obscure long-term exploitation realities
- Alleges exposure to MK-Ultra-style psychological conditioning
- Claims powerful figures operated behind layers of secrecy
- Father allegedly played key role in early victimization
- Survivor perspective on grooming, coercion, and control mechanisms
A survivor of extreme childhood abuse and trafficking, Engel alleges that she was exposed from an early age to sophisticated methods of psychological conditioning, coercive control, and exploitation by powerful individuals operating behind closed doors. Her story goes far beyond conventional discussions of trafficking and abuse. Engel has publicly described experiences involving individuals she believes employed techniques associated with MK-Ultra-style behavioral manipulation, as well as networks of influential figures who used power, secrecy, and intimidation to shield their activities from public scrutiny.
Most disturbing, Engel’s allegations begin inside her own family. She has spoken extensively about the role her father allegedly played in introducing her to an environment where abuse, control, and exploitation became normalized long before she understood what was happening. According to Engel, the predators she encountered ranged from family members to individuals with significant social, political, and financial influence.
At a time when policymakers and media outlets continue searching for ways to combat human trafficking, Engel offers a perspective that challenges simplistic narratives. She can discuss how traffickers cultivate compliance, why victims often remain silent for years, how elite abusers can evade accountability, and why many trafficking survivors struggle to find support when their experiences do not fit neatly into conventional frameworks.
Engel is also available to discuss trauma recovery, survivor advocacy, organized exploitation networks, coercive psychological techniques, institutional failures, and the lasting impact of childhood abuse. Her story serves as a reminder that trafficking is not merely a criminal transaction but often a complex system of control that can span years, generations, and multiple layers of society.
For audiences seeking a deeper understanding of exploitation beyond the headlines, Juliette Engel provides a rare and compelling firsthand perspective.
