March Home for Life (Guest: Emily Berning)

CEO of Pro-Life Group Leaves March to Save Lives

Emily Berning went to Washington, D.C. for the annual March for Life but she had to leave. Why? Because there was a young mother-to-be in desperate need of help. “It is just as important to live out the pro-life mission as it is to show support for it by demonstrating in the tens of thousands,” Berning said.

Perhaps this turn of events for Berning is the best example of her organization’s mission. Let Them Live isn’t overly concerned with politicians, lobbyists, legislation, or the pro-life agenda in the macro, while that is definitely important. Berning and her team have decided to meet mothers where they are, on a very personal level. It is there that Let Them Live can actually do its best work, one mother and one child at a time.

“I was in D.C., ready to march for Life—an event that re-energizes our mission every year,” Berning says, “but I had to leave early for the very reason I march in the first place: to stand with a mom in need and ensure she and her baby have the support and care they deserve. The mission of the pro-life movement is lived out every single day!”

Let Them Live operates on the principle that financial hardship is one of the main reasons women consider abortion. By providing rent assistance, groceries, medical bills, and other essential needs, the organization helps remove financial pressure and allows mothers to choose life for their babies. Berning and her team recognize that marching and raising awareness is vital, but it is action that truly changes lives.

Berning’s decision to leave the March for Life to help a mother in crisis illustrates the heart of the movement—compassion in action. The March for Life is an incredible opportunity to unify, inspire, and motivate, but it must be accompanied by tangible support. This is why Let Them Live has built a network of donors and volunteers who step in to provide real assistance to women facing unplanned pregnancies.

In the days following the march, Berning continued to emphasize the importance of meeting women where they are. “Every woman deserves to know she is not alone. She is capable, she is loved, and she has options,” she stated. “The pro-life movement must be about more than words; it must be about action.”

For many pro-life advocates, Berning’s story is a reminder that while large-scale demonstrations are powerful, the true work happens in the quiet, one-on-one moments where life-changing support is given. Whether it is paying a struggling mother’s rent or simply being there to offer emotional encouragement, Let Them Live continues to embody the mission of the pro-life movement in the most meaningful way possible.

As the movement looks to the future, Berning hopes that more people will be inspired to not just march, but to act. “If we want to create a culture of life, we need to do more than rally; we need to reach out, support, and stand alongside mothers every day,” she said. Let Them Live’s mission serves as a blueprint for a pro-life movement that is as compassionate as it is determined.
