Witkoff’s Path To Peace a Dead End?

The former Mayor of Shiloh, David Rubin, discusses the comments recently made by the U.S. envoy, as well as Hamas’ troubling response.

U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff believes there’s still a path to peace, even as talks between Israel and Hamas break down even further, potentially ending any further chance of a ceasefire. However, it doesn’t appear that the latter is on the same page as him.

After Witkoff noted that Hamas “is ready to demilitarize” just a few days ago, Hamas officials made it very clear that this is far from the case.

The country refuses to disarm “as long as the occupation exists,” and were quick to dismiss Witkoff following his recent visit to the Gaza Strip.

“The American administration is a full partner in the crime of starvation and genocide,” it noted in a statement. It added that Witkoff’s statement is “nothing more than a pre-arranged theatrical performance” to provide Israel with “political cover for managing starvation and continuing the systematic killing of children and unarmed civilians from our people.”

It also insisted that the U.S. “bear its historical responsibility by lifting the cover from the crime of the century in Gaza and moving toward a ceasefire agreement that leads to ending the aggression.”

So is Witkoff simply wasting his time while Israel plans its next move to Hamas? Or is there still a chance for peace?

Joining us now to discuss this further is David Rubin, former mayor of Shiloh, Israel, and Founder of the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund. Welcome, Mayor Rubin.

Q&A:

  1. Let’s just get right to it. Is there any path to peace at this point in the conflict between Israel or Hamas? Or does Israel need to push forward to eliminate its enemy once and for all?
  2. Why is Witkoff so determined to find a path to peace? Is it his concerns over the hostages? Or is there something else that the U.S. hopes to find with a potential ceasefire?
  3. Are you surprised that Hamas refused to play a part with Witkoff’s comments that they would “demilitarize”?
  4. Why would Witkoff tell us that Hamas is set to “demilitarize” in the first place when that’s simply not the case? Is it part of what the country believes is a “theatrical performance”?
  5. Where do you see the conflict between Israel and Hamas going in the months ahead? Where will Iran play a part in this?
  6. Tell us more about the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund and how it can help those in need.
  7. Where can we learn more about you and the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund?
