With Higher-Ups Going Missing In China, Is There Concern About Xi Jinping’s Stature In China? (Guest: Nan Su)

The Epoch Times’ Nan Su discusses the disappearance of several officials, including the current Chinese Defense Minister.

There have been many questions surrounding Xi Jinping and his actions in China as of late – but a particular one surrounds those that haven’t made much presence in a while.

A new report reveals that Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu hasn’t been seen publicly in the past two weeks; and with President Jinping’s recent call for “unity” within the military, there’s question as to if he’s possibly been removed. A rumored investigation hints that he has been “stripped of his responsibilities,” though Jinping nor any of his spokespeople have yet to address the matter.

But that’s not all. Foreign minister Qin Gang went missing a while back, along with two Rocket Force commanders. Rahm Emanuel, who serves as the US ambassador for Japan, actually noted, “Who’s going to win this unemployment race?” with their disappearance from the public eye.

These disappearances – along with questions surrounding the economic state of China – have left many wondering about the stature of Jinping’s rule. There are many that question his judgment, and believe that there’s less international confidence with his governance. And, to make matters worse, a new report indicates that he is “getting more insecure and more paranoid” as he remains in office. Could this potentially be a problem for other countries, especially with rumors of a potential war against Taiwan and the United States dwell?

Joining us now to discuss this matter further is Nan Su, a senior investigative reporter for The Epoch Times. Nan is a specialist in all things China, so his expertise is certainly welcome in this matter.

Q&A:

  1. First and foremost, do you believe the ongoing criticism of Xi Jinping is deserved? Are his actions with the Chinese Communist Party questionable – or downright dangerous?
  2. What do you think about the disappearance of people like Shangfu and Gang, as well as the Rocket Commanders? Is the Chinese Communist Party really that concerned with their actions?
  3. What usually comes from investigations such as this? Dismissal? Jail time? Possibly something even worse?
  4. Do you believe these reports that Jinping is becoming “more insecure and more paranoid” the longer he remains in charge in China? Why do you think his administration is so hellbent on assuring that he’s doing a fine job?
  5. What do you think about the rumors that China could launch an attack against Taiwan and the United States sometime over the next couple of years? Do you believe Jinping is desperate – or angry – enough to attempt that?
  6. Speaking of uneasiness with China, you recently contributed to a new Epoch Times documentary called The Final WarTell us more about it and why it’s such a compelling subject with everything that’s happening right now.
  7. Where can we learn more about you and see your work over on The Epoch Times?
