With Another Texas School Shooting That Has Left Over a Dozen Dead, Congress Should Consider an Open Carry Option Before It’s Too Late (Guest: Michael Letts)

Nearly ten years following the terrifying Sandy Hook shooting that left 20 children and several others dead, another event has just taken place, with a frustrated 18-year old suspect to blame.

In Uvalde, Texas, an 18-year old shooter killed his grandmother at his home before proceeding to Robb Elementary. He entered the school with a pistol and a rifle and began opening fire, killing 14 young students and one teacher, along with injuring two others. He would then fire upon two law enforcement officers, injuring them before being killed by other officers.

This is the latest in a long line of mass shootings in the United States, and a truly scary incident. For the second time in less than two weeks, an active shooter younger than 19 years old ended up killing several innocent people.

Many out there are asking, “What now?” Joining us to discuss the topic is Michael Letts, who serves as founder and CEO of InVest USA, an organization that provides bulletproof vests to officers across the country, using various sponsorship-based programs and charitable groups. He’s helped hundreds of officers in the field, and was heartbroken to hear about what happened in Uvalde.

  1. It must be absolutely frustrating to see young men able to get their hands on modified rifles and other gear in a “prepared to die” scenario. How frustrated are you right now with what’s happening?
  2. What do you think is the biggest problem when it comes to responding of shooters of this type? Was there any way officers to be better prepared for what they were going to face?
  3. You’ve spoken about “open carry” in the past, where citizens would be able to use firearms in emergency situations. How effective do you believe “open carry” would have been in this situation?
  4. Some in Washington believe that enabling “open carry” isn’t the answer, but a potential gun ban is. But you don’t believe that banning weapons is the way to go. Why is that?
  5. What do you think politicians need to do to provide the support needed to stop horrific events like the Uvalde shooting from happening? What’s your recommendation for people that are tired of seeing ongoing shootings such as this?
  6. Where can we learn more about In-Vest USA?
  7. You can visit the official website at http://www.investusa.org.
