Will Republicans Galvanize Support with Justice Breyer’s Retirement? Guest: Blake Harbin

Interview Introduction:

United States Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer announced his retirement earlier this week. Now Joe Biden has an opportunity to put his mark on the Court by appointing a new justice. The president has previously indicated that he would be nominating a black female candidate by the end of February. In some circles, this raises concern that he may be playing identity politics to select a justice for the highest court. Speculation has swirled that Kamala Harris could be a named candidate, but there is substantial resistance on both sides of the aisle to her possible selection.

Justice Breyer’s retirement also provides Republicans with an opportunity to galvanize their base heading into the 2022 midterm elections. President Trump’s legacy was largely defined by his appointment of three Supreme Court justices, which arguably changed the composition toward Conservative causes.

We are joined by Republican Blake Harbin, Congressional Candidate for the 6th district in Georgia. Blake is urging Republicans to band together and use Biden’s appointment to ensure Republicans stand united against the Democrat’s agenda and use the momentum to win back Congress in 2022, and the presidency in 2024. Welcome, Blake Harbin.

Questions and Answers:

Let’s start with this one right off the top. Do you think Biden picks Kamala Harris as his nomination? Biden will not pick Harris. More importantly, it is unlikely she has the support of all of the Democrats in the US Senate. Her failure as a leader and inept approach to solving issues has discredited her.

Do you think Biden is failing to find the best Supreme Court nominee by narrowing his choice to a black female? Biden’s intent on selecting a black female is based on identity politics, not merit. His insistence on locking his choice so narrowly is a direct result of his failures as President and not holding any credibility within his own party.

Do you believe the nominee should be selected on the basis of merit and not the color of their skin? There are hundreds of qualified candidates that Biden is overlooking. The whole basis of the American dream is based on hard work and merit.

What does the process look like at this stage? When can we expect Biden to announce his nominee? Based on Biden’s timeline he will announce his nomination by the end of February. The Senate will take several weeks to work through the confirmation process and likely have the process completed by the time that the Court recesses in early summer.

Do you think Justice Stephen Breyer was forced to retire? The treatment of Justice Breyer by the White House/Democrats was deplorable. He did not even have an opportunity to tell his fellow justices that he was retiring before the information leaked out. It is a clear sign he was being forced to move out.
