The author and pastor discusses Hamas’ latest rejection to a U.S./Israel deal, and ponders what will happen to its hostages as a result.
As the war continues between Israel and Hamas, it appears the latest ceasefire offering has been met with some resistance. And, at this point, it’s hard to tell if a deal will ever be made.
The United States recently offered a ceasefire proposal to Hamas in exchange for ten living hostages, as well as several deceased ones. However, Hamas doesn’t seem too keen on the deal, and has added some amendments. These include demands for a permanent truce, as well as a request for Israel to remove all its troops from Gaza.
In response, Steve Witkoff, who serves as Donald Trump’s envoy for the Middle East, noted, “I received the Hamas response to the United States’ proposal. It is totally unacceptable and only takes us backward. Hamas should accept the framework proposal we put forward as the basis for proximity talks, which we can begin immediately this coming week.
“That is the only way we can close a 60-day ceasefire deal in the coming days.”
So will Hamas be forced to relent? Or will a deal ever be made? And, for that matter, if one isn’t, what will happen to the hostages?
Joining us now to discuss this situation further is Pastor Mark Biltz, an author and the founder and Senior Pastor of El Shaddai Ministries in Washington State. His experience should prove useful in this conversation. Welcome, Mark.
Q&A:
- Why is Hamas so intent on making a deal on their own terms, rather than looking at the ones presented in the U.S. ceasefire offering?
- Is it simply trying to gain any sort of edge it can over Israel at this point? Is this a desperation ploy or do they have an alternate plan in mind?
- If a ceasefire deal cannot be reached, what will this mean for the hostages that remain in Hamas’ custody? Will they ever be freed?
- What do you think should be the final outcome for this war? Can a deal be reached with Hamas? Or do they need to be completely destroyed, as Israel has suggested in the past?
- You discuss something called the Tribulation quite often. Tell us more about it, and when you think it might take place.
