Why Is the U.S. Becoming Less Effective In Catching Immigrants At the Border? (Guest: Kay Rubacek)

Producer and editor Kay Rubacek discusses the new Epoch TV film Gotaways, and how the government is failing to stop migrants from pouring into the country.

The United States has a serious problem at the U.S./Mexico border, with hundreds of migrants somehow slipping into the country. And it appears that the government is doing very little to rectify the matter.

Even though the Biden Administration has attempted to make changes to potentially make it more difficult to get into this country, thousands of migrants still somehow get in, resulting in their being shipped off to various states like New York and Texas. What’s more, feeble attempts at defenses, like the floating border wall at the Rio Grande, are proving incredibly ineffective.

Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber sees these tools as “a waste of money and far from effective,” and even goes as far as to call it a “political stunt.”

A stirring new documentary recently debuted on Epoch TV, discussing how immigrants are easily capable of slipping into the United States. Titled Gotaways, the film spans the course of a two-year timeframe, following director/producer Charlotte Cuthbertson as she looks how so many “gotaways” are slipping past the border.

Joining us now to discuss this situation further is Kay Rubacek, who serves as producer and editor of Gotaways. Her experience in seeing what happened and how it affects modern Americans will provide further insight into it.

Q&A:

  1. Based on your perspective with what you and Charlotte went through while making Gotaways, how bad would you say the Border situation is at this time?
  2. Why do you believe so many migrants are slipping into the United States undetected? Are there really not enough efforts being made to catch them?
  3. Where do you think money could be spent better to detect migrants before they get into the country? Or is there any sort of effective method that would work?
  4. Does a film like Gotaways show first-hand just what’s happening with migrants at the border? Do you believe there’s a lesson that can be taken away from it – something even government officials could consider?
  5. Tell us more about Gotaways, and what viewers can learn from what you and Charlotte have put together.
  6. We understand that Charlotte just won the Best First Time Director award for Gotaways at the Oniros New York Film Festival. What would you say about this accomplishment?
  7. Where can we learn more about Gotaways, as well as you in general?
