Gun Owners of America spokesman Stephen Willeford explains why such a registry simply won’t work.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) have sunken to a new low, using the recent attempt on former President Donald Trump’s life to beef up their gun registry.
“According to anti-gun leftists, since the ATF was able to use an unconstitutionally assembled federal registry of out-of-business gun store records to track the AR-15 used to its original owner, and thus identify the father of the shooter, this supposedly justifies the maintaining of a massive gun registry,” the Gun Owners of America explained in a recent statement.
“But they’re missing a key point…illegal Federal gun registration did not stop the shooter!”
This comes after it was revealed that the ATF did a trace on the Trump Rally shooter’s gun, using records that have been opposed by many within the GOP. It appears that the group has access to over almost one billion gun records. This is even with a federal prohibition on a national gun registry being put in place.
Anti-gun reps in Congress recently tried to call for a full federal gun registry. However, Rep. Michael Cloud filed an FOIA, asking for the ATF to provide examples where gun registration helped track down criminals.
And it didn’t name a single example. Which means the ATF is illegally keeping said records.
So what happens now? Joining us to discuss this further is Stephen Willeford, spokesman for the Gun Owners of America. You may recall Willeford being the “hero with a gun” with the Sutherland Springs situation in 2017, in which he’s co-authored a book. His expertise on gun rights make him an ideal interviewee for this subject.
Q&A:
- How were the ATF able to build such a database, despite a federal prohibition being in place to put one together? Was this something that President Biden helped with, you think?
- How dangerous is it for the ATF to have such a database, essentially listing private gun owners as potential criminals?
- Why are there some in Congress that want such a registry to be legal? Even after the ATF didn’t have any examples of it being used to track down criminals?
- If Kamala Harris is elected to office, do you believe she could pose a threat to private gun owners, like Biden before her?
- What can be done to stop the ATF’s use of such a database?
