What Complications Could Come From Florida’s Recent Abortion Rulings? (Guest: Jim Harden)

The CompassCare CEO discusses the two recent decisions, and what could come as a result.

The beginning of this week saw the delivery of two abortion rulings provided by the Florida Supreme Court for the state. With them, the following rules were issued:

-A 15 week ban that will trigger a 6 week ban supported by Gov. Ron DeSantis, set to take effect in May.

-A ballot initiative will provide a state constitutional right to abortion before fetal viability (around 24 weeks), which could see an introduction on a ballot come November for voting.

That said, there are interesting complications. The Florida ballot measure actually needs 60 percent support, and, based on previous history from red states, that’s a hard number to get to.

What’s more, political opinion is spreading like wildfire over the new ruling, as the 6 week ban will likely block abortion access for millions of Floridians, as well as surrounding states.

Of course, that means pushback over the state constitutional right to abortion going on the ballot. Though signatures to get it on the ballot have reached one million, Democrats have a way to go to see it into fruition.

Joining us now to discuss these rulings further is Rev. Jim Harden, CEO of CompassCare. His expertise on the subject of abortion, as well as the value of life, make him an ideal subject for this interview. Welcome, Jim!
