What Can the Second Amendment Rights Section Do To Protect Private Owners’ Gun Rights? (Guest: Stephen Willeford)

The spokesman for the Gun Owners of America discusses the creation of the new Department of Justice division, and if it will truly make a difference with gun rights in 2026.

Doing the exact opposite of what previous President Joe Biden attempted with his anti-gun administration, the United States Department of Justice is making huge strides forward in opening its Second Amendment Rights Section this month, the Civil Rights Division.

The unit is being put in place to scrutinize state and local gun laws, challenging any that may get in the way of constitutional protections, as provided to each and every American. Harmeet K. Dhillon, a conservative civil-rights litigator and founder for the Center of American Liberty, was handpicked by President Donald Trump to lead this new Division.

Dhillon confirmed this new division on X, noting, “The right of law-abiding American citizens to keep, bear and use commonly known firearms is fundamental, and this Justice Department has a lot of 2A work planned, in addition to what we’ve already done!”

Several gun rights groups and activists have praised the opening of the division, as it will certainly assist in battling some states’ very restrictive gun laws. That said, there are those that believe that expanding gun rights enforcement at a federal level may weaken state authority to regulate firearms, and politicization could enter the picture.

Will this serve as a move for the better as the new year approaches? Stephen Willeford, the 2017 “hero with a gun” who serves as spokesman for the group, joins us now to discuss this further. We welcome him to the show!
