Undoing a Devastating Red Flag Act!

A spokesman for the Gun Owners of America discusses a crucial vote in the state of Maine that could either enact or do away with the Extreme Risk Protection Order Act.

Yet another state is ready to apply controversial red flag gun confiscation laws. But this time, voters have a key opportunity to make a difference.

On November 4th, Maine voters will have a chance to either put the Extreme Risk Protection Order Act into effect, or stop it dead in its tracks. Some are considering the importance of the Red Flag Gun Confiscation order. However, gun owners know what kind of hindrance such an Act could put on them.

On the ballot, the following question reads: “Do you want to allow courts to temporarily prohibit a person from having dangerous weapons if law enforcement, family, or household members show that the person poses a significant danger of causing physical injury to themselves or others?”

With that, the Gun Owners of America have made it clear that the passing of such an Act needs to be stopped. “As a reminder, these orders are often issued ex parte, meaning that firearms can be confiscated before the accused has an opportunity to appear in court and present a defense for themselves.

“This is a blatant due process violation that creates significant potential for abuse and false reporting, putting law-abiding gun owners at risk of unjustly losing their rights and suffering lasting, irreparable harm.”

A spokesman for the group – either Mark Jones or Stephen Willeford – joins us now to discuss the situation further.

Q&A:

  1. With the Second Amendment still alive and well in the Constitution, why is it that some states continue to try and produce Red Flag laws that try to remove gun rights from citizens?
  2. Are Maine government types really that concerned about gun violence that they would violate said rights?
  3. How badly could this Red Flag law hurt others, especially when it comes to abuse and false reporting?
  4. Shouldn’t gun owners have the right to defend themselves in court, without a silly gun law getting in the way?
  5. What can Maine voters do to fight back against such a potentially dangerous Act?
  6. Where do you see the fight surrounding gun rights going as 2025 draws to a close?
  7. FOR STEPHEN: You recently wrote a book called A Town Called Sutherland Springs: Faith and Heroism Through Tragedy, revolving around your 2017 “hero with a gun” situation. Tell us more about how this came together, and why it’s such an important read right now.
  8. FOR STEPHEN: Where can people find your book?
  9. You can purchase the book here on Amazon, both in paperback and Kindle format.
