Art of the Drug Deal (Guest: Jim Renacci)

Fentanyl Drug Traffickers Targeted by Trump in Tariff Battle with Mexico

Fentanyl drug trafficking across our southern border into the U.S. has led to hundreds of thousands of deaths by overdose in the U.S. Since Donald Trump was first elected, the annual number of deaths has skyrocketed from approximately 10,000 to now more than 70,000. As part of his deal with Mexico’s President, to get Mexican troops on the border, to stop illegal immigration, Trump has another stated reason for doing so.

He is going to focus those Mexican troops on stopping the flow of fentanyl as well as illegal aliens into the U.S.

Former four-term U.S. Congressman Jim Renacci is speaking out on former President Donald Trump’s latest move to combat illegal immigration and the deadly fentanyl crisis—leveraging tariffs to force Mexico into action. The Biden administration’s failure to secure the border has fueled a national security catastrophe, but Trump’s strategy offers a proven, results-driven approach. Renacci, a staunch advocate for strong borders and economic sovereignty, is available for interviews to break down why this bold policy is a winning formula for America.

Tariffs as Leverage: A Strategy That Works

For decades, Washington has failed to hold Mexico accountable for its role in fueling America’s drug crisis and the unchecked flow of illegal migrants. Under President Biden, cartels have operated with near impunity, flooding U.S. streets with fentanyl—now the leading cause of death among young Americans. Meanwhile, millions of illegal immigrants have poured across the border, overwhelming communities and law enforcement.

Trump’s solution? Hit Mexico where it hurts—trade. His newly announced tariff plan would impose a 25% tax on Mexican imports, forcing the country to crack down on cartels and illegal border crossings or face devastating economic consequences. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, recognizing the serious threat to Mexico’s economy, has already agreed to deploy 10,000 National Guard troops to stem the crisis.

Renacci calls this the kind of leadership America needs: “Biden’s weak policies have emboldened cartels and opened the floodgates to illegal immigration. Trump is putting America first by using economic pressure to get real results—something career politicians in D.C. have failed to do for years.”

The Fentanyl Epidemic: A Crisis Mexico Must Address

The fentanyl crisis has spiraled out of control, with Mexico serving as the primary hub for cartel operations that manufacture and smuggle the deadly drug into the United States. Despite repeated pleas from law enforcement, the Biden administration has failed to take meaningful action to hold Mexico accountable. Trump’s tariff plan forces Mexico to take the issue seriously by tying their economic well-being to their willingness to combat the crisis.

“Mexico can’t have it both ways,” says Renacci. “They can’t continue turning a blind eye to the cartels while benefiting from massive trade surpluses with the U.S. Trump’s tariffs send a clear message—act now or pay the price.”

Biden’s Failures vs. Trump’s Proven Track Record

Trump has successfully used tariffs before to get Mexico to act. In 2019, he threatened escalating tariffs unless Mexico cracked down on illegal border crossings—and within days, the Mexican government deployed thousands of troops to stop the flow. The result? A dramatic drop in illegal immigration.

Now, with border crossings at record highs and fentanyl deaths skyrocketing, Trump is once again proving he is the only leader willing to take decisive action.

Renacci believes this is a key moment for voters to recognize the stark contrast between Trump’s America First policies and Biden’s open-border failures: “The choice couldn’t be clearer—Biden lets chaos continue, Trump demands action and gets results. If Americans want a secure border and a safer country, this is the policy that delivers.”

Why Renacci? A Voice of Experience and Solutions

Jim Renacci isn’t just another commentator—he’s a former congressman, successful businessman, and outspoken advocate for policies that put American families and workers first. With deep expertise in economic policy and border security, he brings a unique perspective on why Trump’s tariff strategy is the right move at the right time.

Renacci is available for interviews to discuss:

  • How Trump’s tariff strategy forces Mexico to act on fentanyl and illegal immigration.
  • The failures of the Biden administration and why the border crisis has spiraled out of control.
  • Trump’s track record of using economic leverage to get results.
  • Why should voters prioritize border security and national sovereignty in 2025 and beyond.

This is the conversation America needs to have, and Jim Renacci is ready to lead it.

ABOUT JIM RENACCI…

Over 30 years ago, Jim Renacci moved to Ohio with a few hundred dollars, dreaming American dreams of starting a family and launching a business. Growing up in a blue-collar union family in western Pennsylvania, Jim Renacci was the first in his family to graduate from college.

Not only did the blue-collar entrepreneur realize his own dream, but Jim also became the answer to countless Ohioans.

Marrying his childhood sweetheart Tina, Jim started implementing his entrepreneurial vision of owning a small business, providing jobs and livelihoods for local families. As can only happen in America, the Ohioan entrepreneur soon laid claim to operating over 60 businesses, creating 1,500 new jobs, employing over 3,000 people statewide.

But politics had other plans. In 2009, the Obama Administration took over General Motors, shuttering dealerships across the country— including Jim’s in Northeast Ohio. Shutting down Jim’s dealership killed 50 good-paying jobs in his community — and Jim wasn’t going to stand by while neighbors were going hungry. How could Washington blatantly interfere in the everyday lives of hard-working Americans who wanted nothing more but their own chance at the American Dream?

In 2010, Jim filed to run for U.S. Congress in Ohio’s 16th Congressional District, taking on a well-funded Democratic incumbent. Jim won the election by 9 percent.

While in Congress, Jim earned a reputation for being a principled conservative and effective legislator. He quickly rose through the ranks to serve on the Committee on Financial Services, as vice-chair of the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit, and as a member of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations. After just two years, Jim was named to the powerful Ways and Means Committees and Budget Committees.

Jim’s track record as a blue-collar entrepreneur demonstrates his only allegiance has ever been to the very people who D.C. bureaucrats forcibly unemployed that fateful day in an Ohio car dealership — the everyday Americans forgotten by the Swamp. He represents the people’s hopes and fears, bringing actionable results back to the working people who gave him a voice.
