Video Catches Transgender Council Member and Star Wars Shop Owner
Getting Into A Public Shouting Match
“Trans Women ARE Women!”
vs.
“If You Are Born with A (Expletive) You Are Not A Chick!”
Interview opportunity with Joe Dallas
Last week a Star Wars memorabilia shop owner in Aberdeen, WA, was confronted by a transgender City Council member, and the fight got taken into the street.
It all began with a sign written by Don Sucher, owner of Sucher and Sons Star Wars Shop in Aberdeen. Sucher had recently posted a sign in the store’s window stating, “If you are born with a (expletive for male organ) you are not a chick.”
City Council member Tiesa Meskis, who identifies as a male to female transgender, walked into the shop to confront Sucher about the sign, and video footage shows the two of them taking it outside just like a couple of guys.
“Trans women are women!” Meskis shouts to everyone on the sidewalk, while Sucher just as loudly counters, “You’re nuts. You are not a chick!”
While supporters of Meskis plan to protest outside the store, Sucher is defiantly unrepentant, claiming to show all his customers, trans included, friendly respect when they come in. But, he’s quick to add, he cares little about how people feel about his sign, while Meskis claims Sucher should know that what he’s saying is hurtful and demeaning to trans people.
So the clash escalates. Transgender advocates believe Americans needs to be converted to a trans-affirming viewpoint. Social and religious conservatives see the Trans movement as coercive and indifferent to freedom of speech and religion.
How, then, is a conservative to express his view without being seen as hateful and ignorant? Have we reached the point at which a respectful dialogue is impossible?
Joe Dallas doesn’t think so. Dallas is a Pastoral Counselor, speaker, and the author of the new book, “Christians in a Cancel Culture.”
Conversation Questions:
1. Why do you think Sucher felt the need to post an anti-trans sign in his shop?
2. Was his approach the right one for Christians to take?
3. Why should the average citizen care about this issue?
4. How does your book, “Christians in a Cancel Culture,” equip readers to better understand and discuss this issue?
5. What do you think the long-term goals of the trans movement really are?
