The Veterans Administration Is Unfairly Getting Men and Women Banned From Owning Firearms (Guest: Stephen Willeford)

The spokesman for the Gun Owners of America believes rights of former American service members are being violated.

There are a number of politicians out there that want nothing more than to create gun laws to take firearms out of the hands of private citizens – and apparently, the Veterans Administration is part of that group.

In the midst of veterans simply struggling with their health or trying to make ends meet, this group is actually making lists with these people on it, turning them over to the federal government. As a result, they find themselves flagged and unable to own firearms.

This is a clear violation of rights, as banning people from owning guns without due process or even an accusation is so abusive that mental health professionals – and even the liberal ACLU – have spoken out against the ban.

What’s worse, if this administration can do this to Veterans, what’s to stop someone from creating a bill that points out people that have talked to financial specialists or therapists as threats to this country? What’s stopping them from losing their gun rights as well?

Though the House and Senate are working on bipartisan amendments to repeal this Veteran Gun Ban, more work needs to be done.

Joining us now to discuss this matter is Stephen Willeford, a spokesman for the Gun Owners of America. Stephen was also the “hero with a gun” in the 2017 Sutherland Springs incident, which he has since co-written a book about. We welcome him to the show.

Q&A:

  1. What do you think compels the Veterans Administration to make these lists and get veterans banned? Are they really that concerned about the state of their mental health?
  2. Shouldn’t the Veterans Administration be working more to support these brave people instead of taking away their rights to own a firearm?
  3. It seems we’re seeing a lot more laws as of late, where administrators and politicians are more concerned about overall safety than the rights of gun owners. Why aren’t they taking a closer look at how the Second Amendment actually protects them?
  4. Do you believe the bipartisan amendments by the Senate and House could actually repeal the Veteran Gun Ban? Or is more work needed?
  5. You’ve been talking a long time about the importance of those that practice Constitutional-Carry, or Concealed-Carry as some call it. Why do you believe it’s an effective solution against “active shooters”?
  6. You recently wrote a book called A Town Called Sutherland Springs: Faith and Heroism Through Tragedy, revolving around your 2017 “hero with a gun” situation. Tell us more about how this came together, and why it’s such an important read right now.
  7. Where can people find your book?
    1. You can purchase the book here on Amazon, both in paperback and Kindle format.
  8. Where can we learn more about you, as well as Gun Owners of America?
    1. You can learn more at http://www.thebarefootdefender.com. You can also read more about the Gun Owners of America at https://www.gunowners.org/.
