Former Mayor of Shiloh David Rubin explains how the agency should’ve stayed shut down, instead of President Biden needing to revive it.
Following claims that some of its members may have been involved in the brutal attack on Israel back on October 7th, the UN agency assisting Palestine refugees – under the name UNRWA – could now see its work entering a “collapsing” state.
Philippe Lazzarini, who serves as head of the agency, warned that its effort across nine countries could very well become nothing, following the reveal of the allegations this week regarding employees taking part in the attack, where many lost their lives.
“Palestinians in Gaza did not need this additional collective punishment,” Lazzarini noted on X (formerly known as Twitter). “This stains all of us.”
In a following statement, Lazzarini noted, “It would be immensely irresponsible to sanction an Agency and an entire community it serves because of allegations of criminal acts against some individuals, especially at a time of war, displacement and political crises in the region.”
“The lives of people in Gaza depend on this support and so does regional stability.”
There’s no word yet if the funding is set to resume, as the allegations are pretty deep. But some believe it shouldn’t have been started back up in the first place.
Among them is David Rubin, former mayor of Shiloh, Israel, and Founder of the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund. Welcome, Mayor Rubin.
