The former Mayor of Shiloh discusses the relationship between Israel and the U.S., and where it might lead in the future.
Needless to say, the relationship between the U.S. and Israel over the past couple of years has been, for the lack of a better word, “unstable.”
From the get-go, President Donald Trump has supported Israel’s fight against Hamas, especially considering their inhumane actions following what took place on October 7th. Since that time, however, Trump has been somewhat at odds with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over certain issues, despite the U.S.’ continued support.
That said, however, there are some signs of strain, particularly with the U.S. recently agreeing with the United Nations Security Council following Israel’s recent strike on the Qatari capital Doha, in which it had hoped to take out Hamas leaders with a ballistic missile strike.
That said, United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio is in Israel, and is set to talk with Netanyahu in Jerusalem about what’s happening. Though he noted that the U.S. continued to support them, he did make it clear that they are “not happy” about what took place in Doha.
“What’s happened has happened. Obviously, we were not happy about it, the president was not happy about it,” Rubio noted. “It’s not going to change the nature of our relationship with the Israelis, but we are going to have to talk about it — primarily, what impact does this have” with the truce between the two.
So where does the relationship between the two countries stand – and will it continue onward? Joining us now to discuss this further is David Rubin, former mayor of Shiloh, Israel, and Founder of the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund. Welcome, Mayor Rubin.
