The U.S.  Sanctions  Chinese Satellite Company for Supplying Russia with  Imagery (Guest: Nan Su)

The Epoch Times’ Nan Su explains why this, coupled with visiting officials in China, could lead to some interesting questions.

With more and more details swirling around a possible tie between Russia and China, the United States discovered an illegal connection that has led to sanctions.

report from Space News revealed that the U.S. Treasury Department has announced sanctions against ,  Changsha Tiani Space Science and Technology Research Institute (or Spacety for short).  Russians apparently used said imagery  in its ongoing fight against Ukraine. .

Secretary of the Treasure Janet Yellen, who is set to visit China soon, noted in a statement, “Today’s expanded sanctions on Wagner, as well as new sanctions on their associates and other companies enabling the Russian military complex, will further impede Putin’s ability to arm and equip his war machine.”

Spacety recently launched its latest satellite, Beiyou-1, earlier this year, which was initially developed to carry science payloads. But this discovery does bring some question into how China could be working closely with Russia – especially considering it previously noted it was staying neutral in the battle against Ukraine.

Joining us now to discuss this further is Nan Su, an investigative reporter for The Epoch Times that specializes in all things related to China. His expertise should prove quite useful in this matter.

Q&A:

  1. Is it surprising to see a high-tech Chinese satellite company such as Spacety working with a Russian group, especially when it comes to providing technology for its military?
  2. What does this say about Russia and China working together as a whole? Should this be of heavy concern to the U.S.? And, for that matter, other countries?
  3. What do you think will become of the sanctions issued by the United States, if anything?
  4. Not only is Janet Yellen visiting China in the next few weeks, but Secretary of State Antony Blinken is as well. What do you think will come of these visits?
  5. Blinken could very well talk about issues surrounding Taiwan. Could this reveal more of a connection between Russia and China?
  6. Could these sanctions – along with whatever comes from these visits – possibly leave a dent in China’s plans to reopen travel and try to reinvigorate its economy?
  7. Speaking of what’s going on with China, you recently contributed to a new Epoch Times documentary called The Final WarTell us more about it and why it’s such a compelling subject with everything that’s happening right now.
  8. Where can we learn more about you and see your work over on The Epoch Times?
