The spokesman for Gun Owners of America discusses the importance of the case, and why Biden seems so determined to regulate them.
As President Joe Biden and his Administration continue to push for regulation of self-assembled weapons kits – or “ghost guns” – the Supreme Court is set to hear the case.
The Court confirmed this week that it will take up the issue next term, and see if Biden’s Administration has a point in regulating them, or if it violates the rights of private gun owners.
Biden had originally announced regulations surrounding “ghost guns” at a White House event back in 2022, noting that they were a danger to children and police officers. However, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals recently knocked down the regulation, made by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), citing that a background check and serialization of the parts wasn’t necessary.
As expected, the Biden Administration filed an appeal, which will now lead to the Supreme Court hearing the case, though it won’t be until this fall. In the meantime, the regulation isn’t being enforced.
Joining us now to discuss this further is Stephen Willeford, the spokesman for the Gun Owners of America. You may recall Willeford being the “hero with a gun” with the Sutherland Springs situation in 2017, in which he’s co-authored a book. His expertise on gun rights make him an ideal interviewee for this subject.
Q&A:
- What is your take on “ghost guns” or self-assembled weapons? Should they be regulated, or do private gun owners have a right to not register them?
- Why is Biden so determined to register them, even if they aren’t traditional firearms?
- Biden has been pushing quite a bit for more gun regulations and “extra steps” for those supporting the Second Amendment. Why do you believe he’s so determined?
- How much of a part will gun issues play in the forthcoming Presidential Election this year?
- Do you think Constitutional-Carry (or Concealed-Carry, as some call it) actually provides a better safety factor against “active shooters” and other criminals?
- What argument would you have for those that feel that Constitutional-Carry would simply “put more guns on the streets”?
- You recently wrote a book called A Town Called Sutherland Springs: Faith and Heroism Through Tragedy, revolving around your 2017 “hero with a gun” situation. Tell us more about how this came together, and why it’s such an important read right now.
