A spokesman for the Gun Owners of America discusses the texts from a Virginia Attorney General candidate, which are beyond concerning.
Usually when a candidate is running for Attorney General, they usually go for a clean-cut, dedicated approach. But Virginia candidate Jay Jones seems to be moving well in the opposite direction.
According to the Gun Owners of America, several text messages from Jones recently leaked, pointing out some very sick fantasies about laying waste to Republican opposition.
Jones explained how he was fantasizing about shooting one of his Republican colleagues in the head twice, rather than someone from history that is more deserving. He also noted how he wanted to “p*ss on their graves,” and explained how he wished death upon a certain Republican’s children, believing that such a tragedy would shock someone closer to his own personal views on policy.
It’s an unsettling group of messages from Jones, who firmly believes in gun control groups and even has several endorsements from them on his website. But what’s really chilling is that none of these groups have voiced concern over the messages.
“You’d think that in their work to oppose ‘gun violence,’ a candidate who fantasizes about shooting his political opponent twice in the head would be a no-go,” the group noted in a statement. “Yet, nothing but silence from the anti-gun lobby. It seems as if you are on their side, violence is acceptable.”
Considering that Jones was responsible for bringing several anti-gun bills into law, this should be an eye-opener to who he really is in terms of character. But…why are no gun control groups speaking up on the matter?
A spokesman for the Gun Owners of America – either Mark Jones or Stephen Willeford – joins us now to discuss this further. We welcome them to the show!
Q&A:
- At a time when more and more messaging and social media are being paid attention to in an effort to see how someone behaves online, why does it seem like Jones is, so to speak, getting away with murder with his texts?
- Why have no gun control groups spoken up, especially considering Jones’ own wishes to wish violent deaths to Republicans and their family members?
- Should this be a cause for alarm with Virginia citizens who are fed up with Jones’ anti-gun bills? Or, for that matter, voters in general?
- Is there enough with these texts to perform some kind of investigation, you think? The texts certainly are of a threatening manner.
- What can concerned Virginia citizens – and those that believe in the right to bear arms – do to sound off over these concerning texts?
- Where do you see the discussion over gun rights and the Second Amendment going in the months ahead? Will some states continue to try and introduce restrictions based on their terms?
