The Significant Increase In Seattle Crime Shows Just How Little Washington Understands Gun Control Policies

A spokesman for the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms discusses a disturbing new report in the Seattle Times.

A number of states in the U.S. have very strict gun laws – and some are paying the price as a result.

Namely Seattle, Washington. In a new article published in the Seattle Times, it’s reported that there have been “50 percent more homicides in the first half of 2024 versus the same period in 2019.” This comes after a record number of murders in 2023.

This ties in with the state’s gun control policies, which the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) has noted is a “complete failure.”

Alan Gottlieb, who serves as Chairman for the CCRKBA, noted, “We have maintained gun control in the state, and in Seattle, has been a complete failure. In 2015, the city adopted a special tax on the sale of guns and ammunition, arguing that the money would be used to help reduce so-called ‘gun violence.’ Instead, the number of homicides in the city has more than tripled, from 20 in 2016, the first year the tax was in effect, to 64 last year, according to Seattle Police data posted on their website.”

“In 2014, when Washington voters passed gun control Initiative 594, the state reported 172 homicides, according to the FBI Uniform Crime Report,” Gottlieb continued. “In 2023, according to a new report from the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs, the state logged 376 murders. You can play all the games with statistics you want, but that still amounts to more than double the number of murders since the state started passing increasingly stricter gun control laws.

“Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell and Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson should publicly acknowledge their gun control policies have failed miserably,” Gottlieb concluded. “These gun laws have only penalized law-abiding citizens, and emboldened violent criminals. They should be repealed, and the people responsible for these laws should publicly apologize.”

A spokesman for the CCRKBA joins us now to discuss this further.

Q&A:

  1. Do you believe this is a wake-up call for strict gun policies that aren’t working as effectively as some were hoping?
  2. Will Seattle’s government actually apologize for this? Or will they continue to push for these “gun safety” initiatives and note there’s nothing wrong with them?
  3. If the situation continues to get bad for Seattle, will more people likely leave the city? How will the city government react then?
  4. What can be done to save Seattle, and, for that matter, Washington? Could there be a turn-around in adopting a Concealed-Carry or Open-Carry policy?
  5. Tell us more about the CCRKBA and your devotion to all private gun owners’ right to bear arms.
  6. Where can people call in to pledge their support to the CCRKBA?
    1. The number to support the group is (800) 699-0992.
  7. Where can we learn more about the CCRKBA and its members?
