The NFA Tax Is History!

A spokesman for the Gun Owners of America explains why the Senate Finance Committee’s repeal of the taxes on the National Firearms Act is a big deal.

At long last, private gun owners will start to see a bit of relief on the tax front.

Per this news release, the Senate Finance Committee has officially “advanced language” that will repeal the unconstitutional excise taxes imposed under the National Firearms Act (NFA), as part of the “One Big Beautiful Bill” being handled by the Senate.

Because of this, there will be a full repeal of the $200 NFA tax on various items, including suppressors, short-barreled rifles (SBRs), Short-Barreled Shotguns (SBSs) and “any other weapons” in that range.

The journey isn’t over yet, as the bill will now head to the “Byrd Bath” review, where “non-budgetary provisions may be stripped.” However, since the NFA operates primarily as a tax mechanism, it’s believed that the provision will have no trouble making the cut.

Erich Pratt, who serves as Senior Vice President of the Gun Owners of America, spoke on the victory. “The House opened the door—now the Senate is charging through it. The American people have been forced to pay hundreds of dollars and submit to federal gun registration just to own firearms that are protected by the Second Amendment. That ends now. This is a monumental step toward dismantling the ATF’s unconstitutional enforcement regime, and the Senate must finish the job.”

A spokesman for the group joins us now to discuss this victory further. Welcome to the show!
