The Next Steps For Peace? (Guest: David Rubin)

The former Mayor of Shiloh discusses Israel negotiators to speak with Hamas, and what terms should come in terms of finding peace in Gaza.

After months of terrifying conflict, it appears that a deal could be made that could finally bring peace to Gaza. The question, however, is at what cost.

A new report reveals that Israel will be sending a delegation to Qatar this week to speak with Hamas on a proposal surrounding a ceasefire and hostage release deal.  This comes after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Hamas’ terms with the deal “unacceptable,” despite accepting the offer anyway.

This past week, Hamas noted how it delivered a “positive response” to a proposal for a 60-day ceasefire, ready for negotiations. But there are some concerns as to whether this would last, especially considering there’s no sign of any sort of permanent truce.

In the meantime, Netanyahu has his own travel planned, as he’ll be coming to the U.S. this week to meet with President Donald Trump, possibly to see what further steps should be taken in the talks with Hamas.

Is this finally the path to peace in the Middle East? Or can Hamas even be trusted at this point, considering the damage they were responsible for?

Joining us now to discuss this further is David Rubin, former mayor of Shiloh, Israel, and Founder of the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund. Welcome, Mayor Rubin.

Q&A:

  1. Is Israel sending a negotiator to Qatar to speak with Hamas the right move at this point? Could they truly make progress in completing the ceasefire and getting crucial hostages released?
  2. What do you think about Netanyahu’s trip to Washington this week? What do you think he hopes to accomplish with his meeting with Donald Trump?
  3. Can peace between Israel and Hamas still be accomplished at this point? Or has the “damage been done,” so to speak, with Hamas’ brutal actions?
  4. Why do you think Netanyahu finds Hamas’ terms “unacceptable” in terms of the ceasefire and hostage release? What terms do you believe he would likely ask for instead? Is he hoping to accomplish those in Qatar?
  5. Where do you see the Israel/Hamas conflict ultimately going in the months ahead? Will the ceasefire happen, and stay in place for that matter?
  6. Tell us more about the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund and how it can help those in need.
  7. Where can we learn more about you and the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund?
