The Justice Department Rips the Poor Law Enforcement Response To the Uvalde School Shooting

A Second Amendment Foundation spokesman discusses the report filed by the Justice Department, and what could’ve been done to prevent the loss of life.

The Uvalde school shooting is still considered one of the most devastating events in recent times. And what’s more, according to a report filed by the Justice Department, it could’ve been avoided.

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland delivered a scathing report this past Thursday, noting a number of “cascading failures of leadership, decision-making, tactics, policy and training” when it came to the police on-scene.

Over 175 officers and special agents were outside the school when the shooting happened. However, due to a lack of poor leadership, none of them acted on the shooter until it was too late.

“Had law enforcement agencies followed generally accepted practices in an active shooter situation and gone right after the shooter to stop him, lives would have been saved and people would have survived,” Garland said during a news conference.

Garland had suggested better law enforcement agency training for active shooter events such as this one, but can Concealed-Carry also make a difference? A representative for the Second Amendment Foundation joins us now to discuss the matter further.

Q&A:

  1. Do you believe Uvalde police could’ve done a better job when it came to the shooting that took place back in 2022?
  2. What does this say about the need for additional support during “active shooter” events, such as from those that practice Concealed-Carry (or Constitutional-Carry, as some call it)?
  3. What do you think about the idea of teachers or custodians potentially practicing Concealed-Carry?
  4. Why are some states concerned with passing laws that involve any sort of Concealed-Carry? Are they really that worried about “more guns on the street,” or is it something else?
  5. If someone argued that Concealed-Carry was just a means towards more gun violence, what would your response be?
  6. Is there a way to put together a program where police could actually work with Concealed-Carry citizens to stop active shooters, in case the need arose?
  7. Where can we learn more about the Second Amendment Foundation?
