The FBI Appears To Be Undermining the Effectiveness of Concealed-Carry Shooters, But the Real Question Is Why (Topic: Stephen Willeford)

Gun Owners of America Spokesman Stephen Willeford questions the reported actions of the bureau.

Fox News recently provided details on a new report conducted by the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC), indicating that the FBI is trying to cover up the numbers of effective concealed-carry citizens stopping active shooter events.

According to the CPRC, the report is filled with “massive errors” from the bureau. The data shows that 34.4 percent of active shooter events between 2014 and 2021 were thwarted by those that practice concealed-carry. However, the FBI indicates only 4.4 percent of shootings were stopped. Likewise, it only identified 11 active shooter events (out of 252) stopped by citizens, compared to the report’s 124 events (out of 360).

“Although collecting such data is fraught with challenges, some see a pattern of distortion in the FBI numbers because the errors almost exclusively go one way, minimizing the life-saving actions of armed citizens,” the report notes.

In addition, Gary Mauser, a professor at Simon Fraser University in Canada, noted, “Whether deliberately through bias or just incompetence, the FBI database of active shooters cannot be trusted.”

Here to speak on this report is Stephen Willeford. Stephen serves as a spokesman for Gun Owners of America. You may also recall in 2017 how he stopped the Sutherland Springs, Texas mass shooting, acting as the “good guy with a gun.” His expertise is certainly welcome in this matter.

Q&A:

  1. Speaking from your personal experience from the 2017 event in Sutherland Springs, how vital is it to have citizens that practice concealed-carry these days – especially in the face of growing criminal activity in several states?
  2. In your eyes, just how effective is a concealed-carry citizen in an active shooter event?
  3. When you first discovered this FBI report and how the numbers were reportedly “off the mark,” what did you think?
  4. Do you believe there’s a reason that the FBI may be covering up these numbers? Perhaps to support president Biden’s gun-ban bill?
  5. If the numbers were more accurate, do you believe they could be presented as an argument for the effectiveness of concealed-carry citizens and private gun owners?
  6. Why do you think the FBI “has it out” for private gun-owning citizens? Are they concerned about safety issues surrounding them? Or something else?
  7. Where can we learn more about you and your current work with the Gun Owners of America?
