Former Mayor of Shiloh David Rubin explains why Israel has pulled out of talks with Hamas’ refusal to back down…and what comes next.
It appears that the hopes of reaching a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas has dwindled – and in disappointing fashion.
Fox News has reported that negotiations between the two have fallen to the point that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has recalled his delegation from Doha, with officials noting that Hamas has “hardened” their stance.
“In light of the response Hamas delivered this morning, it has been decided to recall the negotiating team for further consultations in Israel,” the Prime Minister’s Office stated. “We appreciate the efforts of the mediators, Qatar and Egypt, and the efforts of envoy Steve Witkoff to achieve a breakthrough in the talks.”
Hamas had previously demanded the release of 200 Palestinians serving life sentences for murdering Israelis and an additional 2,000 currently detained following the attacks on October 7th. This is a huge leap from what it had previously requested for the release of hostages when negotiations began.
It’s free and clear – Hamas doesn’t want a deal. It wants a full-blown reward for everything that it’s done to Israel. And Netanyahu and his officials simply aren’t having it.
That said, Witkoff isn’t ready to give up, as he noted his team will visit Doha “for consultations after the latest response from Hamas, which clearly shows a lack of desire to reach a ceasefire in Gaza.”
So what happens next? Joining us now to discuss this further is David Rubin, former mayor of Shiloh, Israel, and Founder of the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund. Welcome, Mayor Rubin.
Q&A:

- Do you think Witkoff is wasting his time continuing to try and get a deal made at this point?
- So what happens now? Will Israel continue to move forward on its initiative to eliminate Hamas? What does this mean for the hostages?
- Where do you see the conflict between Israel and Hamas going in the months ahead? Where will Iran play a part in this?
