A spokesman for the Second Amendment Foundation explains what kind of a thorn in the side this center will be to private gun owners.
Once again, President Joe Biden is on the hunt for guns. And once again, Second Amendment rights are put into question.
Just before the weekend, the Biden Administration announced that they will open a national center, in the hopes of educating police and other lawmakers about “Red flag” laws to prevent the sale of firearms – and remove currently owned firearms – from those that are deemed a threat.
The purpose of the hub will be to “support states and localities in the implementation of the National Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) or “red flag” laws, in the hopes of keeping people safe, according to The Epoch Times.
That said, it seems like the decision about who these “unsafe” people are will be left up to courts – and possibly the national hub itself, depending on the case.
But this puts the Second Amendment rights of U.S. citizens into question, even when it shouldn’t be. Some conservatives and gun groups note that this will unfairly judge people, to the point that they can’t even own a firearm – even if they have zero intent to do harm to anyone.
“Oh look. The DOJ just created a program to red flag Trump supporters at the same time they are allowing for illegals to have guns,“ conservative political activist Laura Loomer noted on X/Twitter. ”We all know this will only be used against Trump supporters, so let’s just call it what it is. A red flag database to disarm MAGA. Communism.”
A representative for the Second Amendment Foundation joins us now to discuss the matter further.
Q&A:
- First off, why did the Biden administration form this center in the first place? Is Biden simply trying to “look good” for his re-election campaign? Or is it something else?
- What do these “red flag laws” say when it comes to overriding someone’s Second Amendment rights?
- Could this lead to potential lawsuits, especially when it comes to the potential – and maybe even unfair – classification of someone being a “threat”?
- A Former U.S. Army Ranger and current firearms attorney named Ryan Cleckner once noted that red flag laws “kill peaceable people.” Does this sound accurate to you?
- What kind of place will guns and the controversy surrounding them have in the forthcoming Presidential Election? Could all these rules and potential bans cost Biden his re-election?
- Where can we learn more about the Second Amendment Foundation and its members?
