Letitia’s Leakers: New York AG Whistleblower Reveals Danger of Creating Another ‘Joe the Plumber’

CompassCare the Target of New York AG
While true that James named CompassCare in a 2024 lawsuit, which indicates the New York based pregnancy centers are specifically in Letitia’s crosshairs, the obvious decision to avoid pitting James against Jim in the public square is for a reason. The wording of the lawsuit makes clear that James takes issue with CompassCare is targeted for trying to save lives. The underdog (Harden) would galvanize an entire movement against the New York AG’s efforts.
Assistant Attorney General Daniel Wiesenfeld reportedly sent an email to approximately 2,000 employees accusing the New York Attorney General’s Office of using its personnel, time and resources to target James’ political enemies instead of focusing on actual criminal conduct. The email was reportedly deleted from the office’s servers and disappeared from employees’ inboxes shortly afterward. Target Jim Harden says that’s destruction of evidence.
Harden says that alleged deletion is troubling, all by itself. After all, he’s a target that should be identified.
“All official or unofficial communication within the AG’s office is FOIAble, part of the public record,” Harden says. “Erasing these emails in itself is an act of corruption consistent with the allegations of the whistleblower and with CompassCare’s experience of Ms. James.”
That experience includes James’ 2024 lawsuit against CompassCare, which targets over its communications about Abortion Pill Reversal. Harden has argued that the prosecution was never about protecting consumers, but about using the machinery of government against a Christian, pro-life organization whose message conflicted with James’ abortion politics.
Now, Harden, a target, sees a striking parallel between the whistleblower allegations and another major development: Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s recent acknowledgment that the violent group, Jane’s Revenge, responsible for attacks on pregnancy centers, including the 2022 firebombing of CompassCare, is part of the international far left/Antifa movement.
For more than four years, Harden has been saying that Jane’s Revenge is ANTIFA and CompassCare, an obvious target, was attacked by these politically motivated extremists. Furthermore, the government response failed to adequately confront the ideology and network behind the attack. Rubio’s acknowledgment, Harden argues, finally confirms a key part of what he has been saying.
But there is an intriguing common thread.
Neither development appears particularly interested in putting Jim Harden, the man at the tip of this spear, or CompassCare front and center, by name, despite the fact that Harden is more than ready to be that lightning rod. He proved it in the wake of the Jane’s Revenge attacks in 2022.
Why?
Consider “Joe the Plumber.”
During the 2008 presidential campaign, Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher was an ordinary suburban resident who asked then-candidate Barack Obama a question. Obama’s unscripted response about spreading the wealth around being “good for everybody,” became a political controversy. Then “Joe the Plumber” was mentioned in a presidential debate. Then again. And again. Soon, Americans wanted to know who this guy was. Joe the Plumber became a household name, joined John McCain on the campaign trail and eventually ran for political office.
The political establishment learned something from that episode: put a name and a face on the person being targeted, and you may create a movement around him.
That may help explain why CompassCare and Harden have so often been conspicuously absent by name from official narratives surrounding the controversies involving them.
Because once the public knows exactly who was targeted, the story becomes personal. It becomes Human. The enemy of corrupt power is no longer abstract. It becomes real and people will make their choice on which side to align with. Government, no matter who is office, doesn’t want this. Power abhors a lightning rod arrayed against it, just as it abhors a vacuum.
It is no longer “the Attorney General versus an unnamed pro-life organization.” It is Letitia James versus Jim Harden—an underdog, Christian CEO whose pregnancy center was firebombed, whose organization was subsequently sued by the state, and who has spent years challenging what he says is government persecution of his religious beliefs and constitutionally protected speech.
