Despite the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade, some states are apparently rewriting their own rules when to comes to protecting abortion rights.
South Carolina recently saw an upheaval of a six-week ban it had put in place for abortion, with five key Republicans joining the Democratic minority in an effort to push back against the state’s ban. As a result, it will now go back to the House, where arguments will be made about whether “tweaks” should be made to the standing ban.
The original ban is a bright line of protection for all preborn boys and girls. But now, several are questioning whether its return to the House is a waste of time and effort.
Among those is Rev. Jim Harden, who serves as the CEO of CompassCare Pregnancy Services. His knowledge in the matter will certainly prove useful when it comes to providing a pro-life perspective on the matter.
Q&A:
- You believe that the ongoing argument to ban abortion in South Carolina seems to be an empty one. Why is that the case?
- What do you think about the five Republicans joining the small Democratic minority, seemingly “flip-flopping” where their stance should be in this matter?
- Tom Davis, one of the Republican opposers to the current South Carolina abortion ban, noted that “The moment we become pregnant, we lose all control over what goes on with our bodies.” What would your reaction to this be?
- Other states, such as Michigan, seem to be turning the matter to the voters. Is this a good thing, or could they be too “jaded” to make a sound decision on abortion rights?
- You continue to push on with business at CompassCare, despite the fact that a recent firebombing of a local Buffalo location took place. Can you tell us more about that, and what frustrates you the most about the incident?
- Where can we learn more about CompassCare and its services?
