Should China’s Simulated Attack On a U.S. Warship Be of Concern? (Guest: Nan Su)

The Epoch Times’ senior investigative reporter discusses the simulation, and whether China would consider carrying it through.

With tension building between the United States and China (mostly due to what’s happening with Taiwan), a new simulation has some people concerned about where it could be headed.

A new report from the South China Morning Post reveals that one of China’s secret labs, running under the state-owned China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, recently conducted a simulation that shows how U.S. warships could be attacked, utilizing space weapons and hypersonic missiles. What’s more, it actually published a research paper with the results.

The Science and Technology on Electronic Information Control Laboratory confirmed the successful tests, in which the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) surprises a U.S. warship with a combination of hypersonic missiles and what it deems “electronic warfare.”

The lab has managed to figure out how to overcome the radar technology built by Lockheed Martin, which has been mainstream in warships since the 1970’s. With the radar able to usually detect long-range anti-ship missiles, it may have figured out a way around that.

That said, the simulation looks to be a “what if” scenario for now. But the question is if this is how China would try to launch an attack against the U.S. if its pushing against Taiwanese control ever reached the point of conflict.

Joining us now to discuss this further is Nan Su, a senior investigative reporter for the Epoch Times. Nan is an expert in all things China, so his expertise is certainly welcome here.

Q&A:

  1. What’s your take on this simulation? Should the U.S. have any reason to be concerned, especially with China figuring out its warship technology?
  2. Why would a Chinese lab go as far as to file a public report on the results of the simulation? Is the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) trying to boast its strength as a warning to the U.S.? Or is it something else?
  3. What do you think will come from this report? Could the U.S. possibly change up its military strategy? Or is it merely a blip on the radar?
  4. Could the Biden administration possibly set up some sort of defense in case China does attempt to utilize its hypersonic missiles? Or perhaps figure out a new system for its warships?
  5. Tension has been building between China and the United States over the past couple of years now. Could there potentially be a war between the two countries, especially with all the arguments over Taiwan?
  6. Speaking of what’s going on with China, you recently contributed to a new Epoch Times documentary called The Final WarTell us more about it and why it’s such a compelling subject with everything that’s happening right now.
  7. Where can we learn more about you and see your work over on The Epoch Times?
