Japan Pokes China in the Eye (Guest: Shen Yun Spokesman)

Dance Group the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) HATES, Promoted by Japan

No matter where the touring Shen Yun show goes, it makes an emotional impact – even to those that don’t normally relate to Chinese culture.

This includes several audience members in Bunkyo, Japan, where the show was recently performed twice. It was met with warm applause by newfound fans that came to appreciate classical Chinese dance and music.

“It’s wonderful. I think it’s quite difficult to express a spiritual world through dance, but it was really moving to watch, and I could tell it was reaching the audience,” said Yufumi Kosaka, who is the President of a corporation in Japan.

“[The tenor] is wonderful. The ability to draw power from deep within his body is also instructive for karate hand movements and techniques,” said Tatsuo Takekawa, who serves as a grandmaster in karate.

Even in the face of criticism – mainly from the likes of the Chinese Communist Party and its allies – the show is continuing to find worldwide appeal.

A spokesman for the long-running show joins us now to discuss Shen Yun’s impact on other cultures, and how audiences as a whole can truly enjoy it.

Q&A:

  1. What would you say it is about Shen Yun that finds appeal with different types of audiences?
  2. Is that the way Falun Gong intended to put the show together? In an effort to show how unique Chinese music and dancing truly is?
  3. What about those that are quick to critique it, like the Chinese Communist Party? Are they just fearful of how Shen Yun expresses appreciation for Chinese history, compared to their actions?
  4. How has the show been going so far this year? Are there any other planned stops that are worth discussing in the months ahead?
  5. Where can we learn more about the beautiful art of Shen Yun, and how it motivates others?
    1. The official website can be found here. Tickets to shows are also available there for purchase.

ABOUT LEVI BROWDE…

A career software entrepreneur, Levi’s life changed dramatically in 1999 when his best friend came to the office one morning and announced the Chinese Communist Party had taken away his mother in Beijing to be tortured and “brainwashed.” This marked the beginning of his volunteer work to defend human rights in China. Over the past 20 years, Browde has been interviewed and quoted by the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Chicago Tribune, CNN, the Associated Press, TIME Magazine, BBC, AFP, and other media outlets. He has spoken about Falun Gong and human rights in China at briefings on Capitol Hill in Washington DC, at the United Nations human rights sessions in Geneva, Switzerland.

Browde studied East Asian Studies at Wesleyan University and is an avid supporter of traditional Chinese culture. He founded several software start-ups, and lives in New York with his wife and two sons.
