Seattle Is Finally Paying Back Its Citizens and Businesses For the “Autonomous Zone” Disaster – But What About Police? (Guest: Michael Letts)

Law enforcement veteran Michael Letts believes the hard-working Seattle officers deserve some due for 2020’s city takeover.

With the city in the midst of a massive criminal activity takeover, Seattle is working on damage control. But it has a lot further to go.

Per this report from Fox Business, the city recently settled a lawsuit with businesses and citizens regarding a June 2020 takeover of one of its districts by “defund the police” followers. Known as the Capitol Hill Occupied Protest (CHOP), officials essentially handed over part of the city – including a police district – to these people. Police eventually cleared them out a few weeks later, but the damage remains.

Homicides continue to be at a record high; and police confidence has been shattered by both a decrease in budget and then Mayor Jenny Durkan considering the CHOP takeover as a “summer of love.” (Comments, by the way, that even then-President Donald Trump had to condemn.)

Now, as the city pays $3.65 million in settlement to these citizens and businesses, all eyes are on them to see what they do in an effort to dwell its criminal activity and assist the police. Here now to discuss the matter further is Michael Letts, a law enforcement veteran with 30 years of experience under his belt. Letts is president, founder and CEO for InVest USA, which provides bulletproof vests to police officers across the U.S. through various charitable groups and organizations.

His expertise should be very useful in this matter.

Q&A:

  1. Why do you think Seattle initially granted the CHOP protestors free reign over one of their districts in 2020? Were they caving in to the pressure from the “defund the police” mobs?
  2. How much of a slap in the face is this move to the police force? And, for that matter, coupled with Durkan’s previous comment about the takeover being a “summer of love”?
  3. It appears the city is finally paying the price for the takeover by CHOP, but it hasn’t made any moves towards improving police morale and ranks. Why do you think it’s taking its time in doing so?
  4. Do you believe an increased budget and possibly even an apology would go a long way into restoring the confidence in Seattle’s police forces? Or do you think even more has to be done?
  5. Why do you think people still believe in the “defund the police” mindset, even as criminal activity rages to an all-time high in several cities?
  1. You’re the creator of InVest USA, an organization that provides bulletproof vests to police officers through various charitable groups and sponsorships. Tell us more about that, and why support for fellow officers is so important right now.
  2. We understand that InVest USA is also actively involved with Twitter. Where can interested parties learn more?
